John C. “Jay” Schenk

July 19, 1953 - March 7, 2017

John Carter (Jay) Schenk, 63, of St. Charles, MO formerly of Chicago, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, March 7, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Chicago, attended Divine Heart Seminary (Donaldson, IN) and Illinois Benedictine College. He worked in the insurance and fraternal industry for over 40 years. Jay served executively at NCSF (IL), COF (IL) and CKofA (MO). He took pride in serving as a board member/president of several fraternal and service memberships. Jay was a member of St. Joseph Cottleville Parish for over 29 years and was past school board member/president at SDHS. Jay will be lovingly remembered by his wife Mary; cherished by four daughters, Jennifer (Mark) Murray, Elizabeth (Tommy) Potteiger, Lyn (Josh) Zelnis, Sarah (Daniel) Earlywine; adored Boompa by his seven grandchildren, Jack, Mary and Michael Potteiger, Luke and Carter Zelnis, Cecilia and Maggie Murray; treasured brother to Robert (Elaine) Schenk. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucille Schenk and sister Merrilee (Arky) Mastrangelo. He will be remembered by many relatives and friends. Services from Hutchens-Stygar Funeral and Cremation Center, 5987 Mid Rivers Mall Dr, to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church for Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment in Ste. Philippine Cemetery. Visitation, Sunday from 2-7 PM at Hutchens-Stygar Funeral and Cremation Center. In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Diabetes Association. Jay was a faithful follower of Christ, devoted husband, dedicated father and special Boompa.
